Young S. Keum, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Young S. Keum, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC was born and raised in South Korea, where she lived until she moved to the United States in 2004. She completed her education from elementary through college in Korea. She got her degree in Tourism English Interpretation. She was then a licensed English tour guide for foreign visitors to Korea and a tour conductor for Korean tourists traveling overseas. In 1997 she had the honor of being given the award of Best English Tour Guide by the Korea National Tourism Organization. Her profession led her to meet her husband and she has been living in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, CA, since January, 2004.

Young’s passion in nursing and medicine was inspired by a wise Korean doctor who said he had decided to live his life for himself for the first 25 years of his life, then for his family for the next 25 years, then for others for the rest of his life. She has found caring for others is a blessing in her life.

Young got her BSN in Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno, in December, 2010, and her MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner at George Washington University in Washington, D. C. in May, 2019.

Young is passionate about promoting an individual’s healthy state of body and mind and improving his/her overall quality of life. She believes each individual needs holistic care to meet his/her medical, psychological, and social needs. With her nursing, clinical, and volunteering experience with children and adults, she learned that much of their healthcare needs are unique to their respective age group. Both segments of the population are vulnerable. Within the human lifespan, one group is in the early stage of life, just beginning to develop a healthy lifestyle, while the other group is in the later stage of life, experiencing the consequences of their lifestyle.

One of Young’s passions is patient advocacy. She was nominated for the 2014 Northern Nevada Nurses of Achievement Award for Patient Advocacy and she had the honor of being recognized by the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Sierra Surgery Hospital in 2014.

Young enjoys being with family, reading, gardening, hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, snowshoeing, and skiing.

Young believes:

  • Karma exists.
  • What we absorb through the 5 senses (i.e., seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching), what we feel & think, and what we eat determines our physiological and mental health.
  • The ethical practice of medicine, with which she delivers patient-centered care, tailored specific to the patient’s health needs.
  • Medical service should be reasonably affordable and easily accessible.
Virtual Care (i.e., TeleHealth) can greatly assist with a patient’s accessibility to health care.

Young appreciates the opportunity to discuss your health concerns and to work together with you to help improve your overall health and lifestyle.
